Liam McEntee
Liam McEntee (R.I.P.)

Achill Rovers would like to extend their sympathies to the family and friends of Liam McEntee who passed away earlier this week. Liam was a highly respected Mayo League referee whose loss will be greatly felt throughout the soccer community in Mayo. As a mark of respect all games in Mayo are cancelled this week. A Tribute to Liam has been posted on the Mayo League website.

Connacht Cup Draws

Achill Rovers will have a busy schedule next week end as all four boys sides will be competing in various Connacht Cup competitions. The U12s have been drawn away to Snugboro while the U14s travel to Swinford. The U16s and U18s have drawn home ties versus Killala and Bangor Hibs respectively. U18s giant killers in Quigley Cup

The U18s put in overtime this evening in a fantastic first round Quigley cup tie at the Valley against Westport United. They were rewarded for their work with a 7-6 victory in the subsequent penalty shoot out to see them through to the next round. Full match report click here. U18s results click here

U16s lose at home to Champions Charlestown

Charlestown U16s came to Achill on Monday evening needing a draw to secure the Second Division trophy. There was little charity therefore for Rovers as they left with a 6-1 title winning victory which also condemed Rovers to the wooden spoon. Achill Rovers Juniors 2009

Juniors stay top but drop 2 points in race for title

Playing in wind and driving rain at home last Sunday, the Juniors looked to have bagged all 3 points against Killala until conceding an equaliser in the last 5 minutes. U18s get tough home draw in Quigley Cup

The U18s 2009 Quigley Cup challenge begins next Wednesday evening with a difficult home fixture versus Division A leaders Westport United. With a solid home record, Rovers will go into the game confident of an upset. Kick off at the Valley will be at 6.30pm. Show your support by coming out and shouting for our lads . U16s let slip 2 goal lead at Ballina

After a deserved early lead through 2 Eddie Doran goals, Rovers ignored all warning signs in the last 10 mins of the 1st half and paid for it in the 2nd, letting Ballina Town score 4 without reply. Rovers created chances late in the game but failed to convert. Their last league game next Monday in the Valley will need converted chances in order to trouble league leaders Charlestown. U18s glad to be home.

The U18s yo-yo season continued with a comfortable 3-0 home win against Snugboro on Wednesday evening. Playing with the wind 1st half, Shane Vessey put Rovers 1-0 up. 2nd half saw goals from Sean Scott Cafferkey on 65 and Mikey Davitt 10 mins from time. Many chances went begging including a 30 yard crossbar rattler from Niall Connor. U18s page click here

Juniors keep the pressure on at the top

Achill Rovers Juniors travelled home with a valuable 3 points last Sunday in their 5-1 defeat of Glenhest, which maintains their strong position in Div 1. U16s complete week's program versus Straide & Foxford

For the 3rd time in 6 days Rovers faced a Straide & Foxford side last Saturday in this re-arranged u16s fixture. Following Monday night's goalfest, the 3-1 scoreline in favour of S&F seemed meagre fare by comparison.
