The 6-2 scoreline of yesterday evening's Division 2 fixture at the Westport Sportgrounds unfortunately does not reflect the vastly improved performances given throughout the Achill Rovers U16 team from last weeks home defeat to Conn Rangers.
Rovers were unlucky to go in at half time 3 - 1 down after a sublime goal by Josh McGing. Having pressured a strong Westport side and despite going 4 - 1 down, Rovers did not give up hope.
A classic finish by Sean Callaghan brought the score to 4 - 2 and the team showed some renewed endeavour. The pressure applied brought several chances to level the scores but unfortunately none of these were converted.
There is a glimmer of hope in this side and given time, the full potential of this team will surely be realised.
Achill Rovers travel next week to Straide and Foxford who have had a worse start to their season than Rovers. Hopefully based on this performance the Achill Rovers U16s side should be able to kickstart their season and register some points on the board.
