McHale on his election as Chairman of the Mayo League. Padraig is only the 10th person to hold this office and steps into the position vacated by outgoing chairman Pat Quigley. Achill Rovers would also like to thank Pat for his sterling work in representing Mayo football over the past years. |

The 2010 Martin Gallagher Cup continued last Saturday with River fighting back to draw with St Vincent's in the second match in Group 1. Henry Downes (R.I.P.)

Achill Rovers would like to extend their sympathies to the family and friends of former Mayo League Chairman Henry Downes
who passed away late last week. Henry was one of the pioneers of League football in Mayo and held the highest office in the County for 30 years from 1959 to 1989. A full tribute is posted on the Mayo League Website. |

Penalty exit for U18s in FAI Youth Cup

The U18s 2009 season which is now running into 2010 returned after a long mid winter layoff for an FAI Youth Cup tie against Westport Utd. Jason Forry
scored for Rovers in a 1-1 draw which was played out through to extra time. However Rovers lost out in the resulting penalty shoot out to make it 1-1 in cup ties between the two squads. For U18s info and results click here |

Tommorow's Connacht Cup tie between Achill Rovers U18s & Ballymote Celtic has been cancelled due to expected adverse weather conditions. This is inline with all games cancelled in Mayo, Galway, Roscommon, Sligo & Longford. The tie will be rearranged for another date. |

Juniors miss out in last gasp promotion effort.

The Juniors completed their season in a wind swept Fr O'Brien Park yesterday afternoon with a dissapointing 2-2 home draw versus Clew Bay United. Congratulations go to Clew Bay who confirmed 2nd spot and promotion to the Mayo Premier League. Rovers finished 3rd and will remain in Division 1 next season.

Promotion up for grabs in Juniors final league game

Despite dropping points recently to Mulranny Utd, the Juniors will entertain Clew Bay Utd in their final Division 1 game of the season with the winners clinching promotion to the Mayo Premier League. Achill Rovers Winter Indoor Coaching in Dooega

The winter indoor coaching schedule will recommence begining next Monday evening for U10s & U12s. Tuesday for U16s & U18s and Wednesday evenings for U14s. The "Football for Fun & Fitness for the over 50s also recommences on Monday evenings after coaching has finished at 8.00pm.

U18s overcome Swinford in FAI Youth Cup 1st Round

After going 1-0 down to a 1st half penalty against Swinford, Rovers U18s came back with a 35 yard screamer from Kieran Madden to force extra time in this FAI Youth Cup tie. U16s thru to Round 3 of SFAI Cup

Achill Rovers U16s navigated their way through to the 3rd Round of the SFAI Cup when Yeats Utd conceded the fixture last weekend. Meanwhile the U12s were knocked out of their competition by Castlebar Celtic and the U14s could not field a side therefore gave a walk over to Roscommon Town. |

Andrew Forry Cup 2009

This years 2009 Andrew Forry Cup competition will be held on Sunday 25th October at the Valley. The competition will be held in a blitz format of several teams kicking off at 12.00 noon . Players will be assigned to teams and participation is open to Achill Rovers Players registered for the U14s this season down to players who will be at least 10 years of age on the day. Next weekend sees Achill Rovers busy again in cup fixtures. In the U16s Cup, Rovers are at home to Iorras Aontaithe at 3.00pm. Rovers Juniors Division 1 title hopes fell apart after a diastrous 3-1 defeat away to bottom of the table Ballyheane B. Ballyglass with 34 points are now 4 points clear of Rovers while Clew Bay Utd on 31 points leap frog Rovers into second place. It wasnt a busy day after all for Achill Rovers in the Connacht Cup.The U14s were unable to field a team due to injuries, and gave a walkover to Swinford. The U16s got a walkover from Killalla who were unable to play. The U18s tie was postponed so the squad travelled to Straide & Foxford for an FAI Youth Cup match only for S&F not to turn up. Achill Half Marathon Donation

Liam McEntee (R.I.P.)

Connacht Cup Draws

Charlestown U16s came to Achill on Monday evening needing a draw to secure the Second Division trophy. There was little charity therefore for Rovers as they left with a 6-1 title winning victory which also condemed Rovers to the wooden spoon. After a deserved early lead through 2 Eddie Doran goals, Rovers ignored all warning signs in the last 10 mins of the 1st half and paid for it in the 2nd, letting Ballina Town score 4 without reply. Rovers created chances late in the game but failed to convert. Their last league game next Monday in the Valley will need converted chances in order to trouble league leaders Charlestown. The U18s yo-yo season continued with a comfortable 3-0 home win against Snugboro on Wednesday evening. Playing with the wind 1st half, Shane Vessey put Rovers 1-0 up. 2nd half saw goals from Sean Scott Cafferkey on 65 and Mikey Davitt 10 mins from time. Many chances went begging including a 30 yard crossbar rattler from Niall Connor.

S&F took advantage of a strong wind in the 1st half scoring 4 goals to a single strike from Nathan Lavelle. Rovers second half comeback saw Nathan complete his hat trick with Josh McGing & Sean Callaghan adding to the tally to put Rovers into a 5-4 lead. 2 late break out goals saw

The U18s away form continued to let them down when they ended up on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline this evening at Bangor Hibs.
After going 2-0 down within the first 6 minutes Terence Dever pulled two back in the second period however it was'nt enough to salvage a point. Rovers now drop to 4th with only 6 points from 2 home wins. For

Toal goal in U16s late late show

The U16s played host to Westport Utd B this evening and upset the form book by taking 2 points off the Division 2 leaders. Sean Callaghan's early goal was cancelled out with Westport taking a 2-1 lead early in the 2nd period. Girls U12s in first 11-a-side fixture

The Achill Rovers U12 girls playing their first full eleven a side fixture, came away from a freindly against All Ireland club semi-finalists, Burrishoole with a highly respectable single goal defeat. The result shows how far they have progressed in this their first full season as a squad.
